Restaurant | Betws-y-coed | Wales | United Kingdom

Pizzeria with local ingredients

The "Hangin' Pizzeria" in Betws-y-Coed, a picturesque small town in the heart of Snowdonia National Park in Wales, UK, is much more than just a place for a quick meal – it is an experience that combines enjoyment, atmosphere, and a strong commitment to sustainability. Betws-y-Coed, known for its breathtaking nature and popularity among hikers and outdoor enthusiasts, offers this pizzeria as a welcome culinary oasis that appeals to both locals and visitors alike. The family-run restaurant has earned an excellent reputation in the region, known for high-quality food with a special focus on regional ingredients and global responsibility.

Dog-friendly restaurants in Wales

The atmosphere in the Hangin' Pizzeria is unique and inviting. The interior features rustic yet modern decor with a touch of eccentricity – large murals of gorillas and chimpanzees adorn the walls, reflecting the owners' passion for wildlife conservation. The furniture is cozy, often draped with blankets that provide warmth on cooler days, and the open kitchen with its wood-fired oven emits a pleasant aroma that instantly puts guests in a relaxed mood. Outside, there are seating areas that invite guests to linger, whether enjoying coffee in the sun or dining al fresco. The pizzeria is also dog-friendly, making it particularly attractive for hikers with four-legged companions.

Sustainable dining in Snowdonia

Culinary-wise, the Hangin' Pizzeria focuses on fresh, sustainable ingredients and a creative interpretation of classic dishes. A highlight is the *Welsh Rarebit Pizza*, topped with a rich layer of cheese marinated in Welsh cider and a perfectly cooked fried egg – a tribute to regional cuisine with a modern twist. Meat lovers rave about the *Meatball Crumble*, a pizza featuring juicy meatballs and a crispy crust that stands out with its spicy tomato sauce. For vegans, there's the *Pizzarami*, a delicious variant with vegan sausage, red onions, and a hint of chili, proving that plant-based cuisine is anything but boring. The desserts are also not to be overlooked: the *Cannolis* filled with creamy vanilla or chocolate are a sweet finale that perfectly rounds off the meal.

Creative pizza variations Betws-y-Coed

The concept of the pizzeria goes beyond just good food. The owners, a couple with a deep connection to the region and a heart for conservation, integrate their values into the business. All products are palm oil-free, the meat and eggs come from free-range farms, and a portion of the proceeds goes to animal welfare projects, such as the rescue of orangutans or gorillas. This commitment is also highlighted by the offering of "Conservation Beers" – beers for which a contribution is made to environmental organizations with every sale. Guests can thus not only indulge in culinary delights but also enjoy the feeling of making a small contribution to a better world.

Family-run restaurants in Wales

The service is another highlight: the team is young, friendly, and passionate, even if things can get a bit hectic during peak times. Orders are placed at the counter, giving the whole experience a casual, almost market-like atmosphere. A particularly convenient option is the ability to order takeout – ideal for anyone looking for a quick, delicious meal after a long day in the mountains. Wait times can be a bit longer during busy periods, but the quality of the food more than makes up for it.

Stopped in for breakfast on the journey back home. Had a bacon butty and hot chocolate - both lovely. The team were really friendly, esp to our border collie pup (free sausage helped) and they didn't mind she was a bit excited. Got the feeling it would have a great vibe during the day / evening. Would definitely go back

A fantastic little gem in the beautiful village of Betws-Y-Coed, which I visit regularly! This place truly deserves recognition, and overall, I’m giving it 5 stars, though I’ve rated the food 4 stars for one specific reason - the additional charge for gluten-free bases. I completely understand that gluten-free ingredients can be more expensive, and I really appreciate that they offer a gluten-free vegan pizza, which is quite rare to find these days. It’s a huge plus! That said, this restaurant is clearly thriving, which is wonderful to see for a (presumably) small business. However, I’d love to see a shift in the industry where those of us with celiac disease or gluten intolerance aren’t taxed for a condition we have no control over. This is a well-loved, high-quality establishment that already charges premium prices for great food, so it would be amazing if they could give back to the community by either removing the up charge on gluten-free bases or perhaps even making their own in-house (maize flour or gluten-free flour makes this quite simple!). This spot is already one of the top pizza places in North Wales & it would be incredible to see it become legendary in the gluten-free community too! So please Hangin Pizzeria, absorb some of this cost & help the community out. That said, I’ll absolutely be returning (when my budget allows), as the food is excellent. Thanks for the great pizza, I look forward to visiting again.

Absolutely lovely pizza, lovely friendly staff, clean restaurant and toilets. Inside was full when we arrived at 7pm on a Tues eve, ordered some hot drinks and waited outside and before we knew it, we were being called inside. When they say Dog friendly, they really mean it. There's jumpers outside in a basket, to borrow, and dogs are welcome inside, too, made me feel guilty for leaving our little man at home! Service was fantastic, staff were happy, helpful and polite. Overall, fantastic pizzeria, well worth the 30 min drive to celebrate a family birthday 🍕🎉

I absolutely love this place. I was recommended it by the owners of Aberconwy House. Now, I go out of my way for it whenever I'm in Wales.

It might be because they were having building work done, but the pizzas were not upto their usual standard.
